ASFF2024: Make the Most of the Last Day!
Thank you for joining us at this year’s Aesthetica Short Film Festival. We hope you’ve had a wonderful time and made great memories. It’s the last day, but there’s still plenty to see and do:
Today’s Film Strand:
It’s a Pleasure to Meet You
Our identities are closely linked to the relationships we form. We embody multiple roles simultaneously. Human connections span colleagues, family, friends, lovers and more. This strand digs deep into the complex network of relationships that bring us together, from fleeting encounters to lifelong friendships and family ties.
Social: Awards Ceremony & After Party
City Screen | 16:30-19:00
To bring our 14th edition to a close, we welcome you to join our Awards Ceremony. Prizes are awarded for the best film in each of our genres, as well as our Audience Choice, Best of Fest and Special Guest Awards. Join us for a celebration of stellar achievements, followed by a drinks reception in Yorkshire Museum’s Medieval Gallery (18.00-19.30) and the After Party at Dusk (19.45-Late).
Guest Programme: Strokes of Humanity
YSJU Creative Centre Auditorium | 10:00-11:30
In an increasingly divisive society, it can feel as if being disconnected is the constant reality. That is why we often need a reminder that, even in the toughest situations, we can rely on each other. Strokes of Humanity is a collection of touching short films that implores everyone to remember the power of the bonds that bring us together.
Learn: Kids’ Workshops
YSJU Creative Centre, Various Times
We believe creativity is for everyone. That’s why we are thrilled to share a lineup of incredible workshops designed specifically for young people aged 7-10 and 11-14. Is your child interested in live action filmmaking, stop motion animation or video game development? Then we have just the workshop for them!
Networking: Last Chance Encounters
Dusk | 12:00-13:30
This session is the perfect final chance for filmmakers to meet other creatives working in the film, television and XR fields. Our festival is a place to build communities, establish relationships and connections that will continue to flourish for years to come, potentially creating exciting and innovative new films, television shows or games.
Immersive: The Games Lab
The Hospitium | 09:45-19:30
Games are an important part of screen culture and, here at the Aesthetica Short Film Festival, we are championing developers and designers through our Games Lab. Play a vast range of outstanding independent titles and discover your next favourite adventure game, platformer or RPG. Free with pass and registration recommended.

“In a time like this, fighting to declare your own identitiy, your own story, therapises you, gives you a sense of continuity …” Taking inspiration from Ethiopian filmmaker Haile Gerima’s words, this selection of films delve into the nuances of Rwandan culture and the beauty and struglle of the continuation of life, love and grief.
Fringe: Film Poster Exhibition
City Screen | 10:00-23:00
The art behind any film is often incredible and film posters have a long history, dating back to the 1895 French short L’Arroseur Arrosé. We are thrilled to celebrate their beauty and creativity at this year’s Film Poster Exhibition, which displays 40 amazing pieces from our Official Selection. Show us your faves with #ASFF2024FilmPosters.
Immersive: The VR Lab
The Hospitium | 09:30-19:30
Experience the future of film. For the seventh year, we present our 360 Cinema and Immersive Experiences Lab, realised in partnership with London College of Communication. This is the place to try on a headset and be transported into a different story, time or place. Head to The Hospitium and discover the power of immersive storytelling.
Fringe: Sound Installation
Where Are You Really From?
City Screen | 10:00-18:00
The common question, “Where are you really from?” does not have a simple answer. Sound artist and musician, Vendela Haakonsen, conducted eight interviews with individuals from diverse backgrounds to uncover what the question is actually seeking to answer. Their personal experiences explore the profound impact of being “othered.”
