Aesthetica is the destination to discover the boldest voices in independent cinema. Discover a range of film screenings with our outstanding Official Selection programme. This set of 300 films provides something for everyone, with genres including comedy, drama, family friendly, animation, thriller and more, plus features.

Masterclasses

Our 2025 speakers include representatives from leading companies, such as BBC Film, Ridley Scott Associates and the New York Times as well as directors, producers and VFX specialists who have worked on award-winning titles, such as Conclave, Dune: Part Two, Star Wars, Wicked, Gladiator and Severance.

Workshops

We have teamed up with a host of incredible organisations for this year’s workshops. Explore the art of adaptation, the interplay between actor and director and try out new technologies. These sessions give you the opportunity to generate new ideas, connect with fellow creatives and learn from industry professionals.

Podcasting Lounge

Aesthetica is the only film festival in the UK with a dedicated space for podcasts! Our brand new podcast lounge offers an immersive environment to experience and celebrate 20 fantastic productions. Plus, join us for panels and talks about the innovative ideas coming through this exciting media form. Sit down and tune in. 

Virtual Reality Lab

Aesthetica and LCC’s Screen School invite you to immerse yourself in imaginative stories. The VR Lab at ASFF brings audiences closer to the action than ever before, positioning them in both real and entirely imagined environments. Embark on a multi-sensory journey and explore new technology and cinema in 360°.

Games Lab

Interactive stories invite players to be part of the world, taking an active role in uncovering narratives. Our Games Lab will exhibit up to 50 games from talented indie developers as part of our Official Selection. We are supporters of creativity and are proud to showcase a selection of titles sure to immerse users in new worlds.

Pitch Your Project

Developing a short or feature? Our Pitching Sessions are a chance to receive feedback from Development Executives at leading production companies, such as the BBC, Film4 and New York Times. Successful applicants are invited to a 20-minute, 1-to-1 session with a representative from one of our guest organisations.

Networking Sessions

Whether you’re looking to connect with industry representatives, discover opportunities or learn new approaches to filmmaking, our daily Networking Sessions offer the opportunity to meet with film professionals and share ideas. These valuable social events are hosted by Viridian FX, The Pitch Film Fund and more.

Beyond the Frame

Beyond the Frame – a new cultural programme – will light up the evenings with live performances. Join us for four unforgettable shows, with film critic Mark Kermode in conversation, comedy from Sophie Duker (Taskmaster), live music from rising stars, and silent film screening with live score accompaniment by The Dodge Brothers.
