Networking at Aesthetica 2026

Build relationships, seek out collaborations and make lasting memories. Our Networking and Pitching Sessions make up an essential part of the film festival, and are places where connections are established and opportunities discovered. The 2026 Networking events are attended by leading organisations who will offer you advise on how to master visual effects on a budget, pitch to distributors, and connect with audiences through powerful screenwriting. Here, we offer in-person attendees the opportunity to meet and interact with representatives from some of the world’s leading organisations, from Viridian VFX, Film Hub North, and The Pitch Film Fund.

VFX for Indie Filmmakers: Making the Impossible work on any budget

Visual effects can often feel like something that is reserved for big-budget productions, yet they play a crucial role in bringing ambitious, imaginative stories to life. York-based Viridian FX is a collective of VFX artists and storytellers focused on developing practical, creative workflows that have the capability to scale to any production size. Their experience ranges from supervising effects on independent shorts to contributing to major productions such as HBO’s House of the Dragon series. Join Viridian FX for an informal session exploring how to plan VFX early, integrate them smoothly into production, and use them strategically as a storytelling tool.

Story Exchange: Ideas in Motion

This networking session is intentionally designed to be a relaxed encounter, lead by Film Hub North, which brings together creatives working with narrative across film, television and digital media. Story Exchange: Ideas in Motion is designed as an open space for conversation around storytelling, scripts, and early-stage concepts. Whether you’re developing a feature, shaping a short, or exploring a new idea, this session invites you to meet others working with story in all its forms and stages. There are no panels or formal structure – just an opportunity to talk through ideas, share creative interests and discover potential collaborators in an informal setting.

The Art of Conversation: Refining Your Pitch

A strong pitch is critical – it is how you grab the attention of an industry professional and convey your film’s essence, whether you are seeking finance, building crew, or aiming secure distribution. A compelling pitch distils your whole project to its core, immediately pulling listeners into the story whilst simultaneously highlighting its market and festival appeal potential value here. It is also a valuable opportunity for feedback to help refine your approach. Hosted by The Pitch Film Fund, this session welcomes all filmmakers to practice their pitching skills, exchange ideas, and ignite meaningful discussions around works in different parts of the development stage.

Powering Creativity: Pushing the Creative Industries Further

The Powering Creativity, held in partnership with York St John School of Business, bridges creativity and commerce, welcoming professionals from diverse sectors. Meet outside the De Grey Rooms (YO1 7HB) at 17.00 and experience the highlight of the year – the UNESCO City of Media Arts EXPO – where businesses from design, film, games and media across the region come together. Then, at 18.00, head to York Theatre Royal and enjoy a free drink upon arrival, whilst exploring fresh strategies for innovation, expansion and sustainable growth. Attendees will have the chance to gain valuable insights and build collaborations that will drive the industry forward.

Sync in Focus: Connecting Music and Moving image

This session is designed to be an introduction to sync licensing and the power of creative collaboration between sound and screen, bringing together three talks from leading figures across the industry, including representatives from Universal Music, Rough Trade Records and Domino Recording Company. Together, they’ll share insights into how music is placed within film and television. Following the talks, attendees will have the opportunity to connect in an informal networking session to spark conversation, exchange ideas and explore potential future collaborations. Taking place as part of the New Music Stage programme.

Last Chance Encounters

As the festival draws to a close, Last Chance Encounters offers a final moment to connect with fellow filmmakers, creatives and professionals. Hosted in collaboration with City Screen, this session provides a welcoming space to reflect on the week and continue the distinct conversations sparked during the Aesthetica Film Festival. Whether you’re developing a new project, looking to meet potential collaborators, or extending the relationships formed over the week, this session is deliberately designed to support meaningful exchange. It’s a chance to look back on your highlights from Aesthetica, whilst opening the door to what comes next.
