Opening Night Ceremony | Wednesday 6 November | City Screen

Aesthetica launches its 14th edition with a screening of inspiring and thought-provoking works from the 2024 Official Selection. Curated by Festival Director Cherie Federico, our Opening Night Ceremony spans a broad range of themes, topics and genres, providing a taster of what’s to come over the week, whilst asking questions about the power of film.

Women in Screen Happy Hour | Wednesday 6 November | Yorkshire Museum

The Women Screen Happy Hour is a celebration that recognises and promotes the achievements of women who are working across the Film, TV, Games and XR industries. It brings together cinematographers, directors, producers, developers and writers to network. The event is open to all female-identifying individuals attending the festival.

Meet the Makers | Thursday 7 November | Rose Within the Walls

Get to know the creatives at the heart of #ASFF2024 by meeting the talent behind our Official Selection programme. This is your chance to expand your list of contacts and liaise with industry professionals, fellow makers and a range of creative practitioners. Attendees will receive a free glass of wine when they arrive, on a first-come, first-served basis.

VR & Games Happy hour | Friday 8 November | Museum Gardens

A destination for those working in new technologies, the VR and Games Happy Hour brings guests together to contemplate the future of games development, VR and immersive filmmaking. This is the place to generate ideas about what’s next for interactive media and beyond. This event includes a free welcome drink upon arrival. 

Friday Night Party | Friday 8 November | Dusk

Dusk hosts the renowned Friday Night Party, carrying Aesthetica Film Festival into a weekend of fun social events and inspiring cinema screenings. Located in York’s New Street, the party is the perfect location to re-group with the new friends you’ve made. Grab a drink, connect with industry and prepare for the weekend ahead.

London College of Fashion Drinks Reception | Friday 8 November | Yorkshire Museum

Head over to Yorkshire Museum for a lively drinks reception, hosted by our partners at UAL London College of Fashion. This is a space to meet the students behind the incredible films in our New Wave programme. Discuss your latest shorts and spark collaborations with the people who will help you realise your next big project.

Listening Pitch: Film premiere | Saturday 9 November | City Screen Basement

Aesthetica and Audible have teamed to showcase original stories that show how listening helps us understand different points of view. Join us for the premiere of two winning films: Liberty Smith’s Greensound and Ornella Mutoni’s One Thousand Hills Between Us . Drinks upon arrival with a Q+A, live music and networking after the screening.

Awards Ceremony | 10 November | Yorkshire Museum

We welcome filmmakers, delegates and audiences to join our Awards Ceremony! Prizes are awarded for the best film in each of our genres, as well as our Audience Choice, Best of Fest and Special Guest Awards. Join us as we recognise your achievements and stay for the drinks reception and After Party at Dusk.

Games Lab at Aesthetica | 6-9 November | The Hospitium, Museum Gardens

The video game industry is undergoing dramatic change. We see the journeys into narrative design as a crucial way to understand how storytelling is evolving. The Games Lab will exhibit 40 games and showcase a range of different styles. We are supporters of creativity and are looking for games that immerse users in new worlds. 

Screen School VR Lab | 6-9 November | The Hospitium, Museum Gardens

Aesthetica and LCC’s Screen School invite you to become fully immersed in bold and imaginative stories. This is your opportunity to embark on a multi-sensory journey through technology, as you explore the world of immersive 360 cinema. Our VR Lab will be held at The Hospitium, alongside panel discussions at York Explore.
