Sarah Gavron speaks with Victoria Emslie about her motivations, inspirations and progression from short film to TV and features.
Saturday 11 November
Sarah Gavron is a BAFTA-winning filmmaker whose films highlight the experiences of women and girls in the UK. Her powerful stories, which often tap into themes of class and migration, are directed with empathy and a concern for serious issues in society today. Credits include BBC’s This Little Life, Brick Lane, Suffragette and Rocks, written by Theresa Ikoko and Claire Wilson and made collaboratively with cast and crew. The film premiered at TIFF, winning two BAFTAs and eight nominations. In this spotlight, actor and founder of Primetime, Victoria Emslie, speaks to Gavron about her motivations and inspirations and her progression from short film to TV and features. She also reviews the necessity for a more equally representative film industry, on-screen and behind the lens.
