In one month, ASFF will transform the city of York into a cinematic playground, celebrating the best in independent film and welcoming representatives from the UK’s leading organisations. For ASFF’s ninth edition, speakers include Oscar-winner Simon Chinn (Man on Wire, Searching for Sugarman), BAFTA-winning producer Paul Webster (Atonement,Pride & Prejudice) and BIFA-nominated Editor Chris Wyatt (This is England, God’s Own Country).
Expecting over 25,000 attendees, the festival connects audiences through a shared love of film. For the 2019 edition, a carefully curated selection of films spans shorts, features and VR works, from Drama and Comedy, to Documentary and Family Friendly screenings. Over 400 works will be screened in York’s most prestigious venues, including York Theatre Royal, Yorkshire Museum, City Screen and Everyman.
Representatives from the BBC, British Vogue, Industrial Light & Magic, the British Film Institute, Guardian Documentaries and dozens more will be present, sharing innovative projects and cutting-edge expertise. As part of the masterclass programme, ASFF provides a spotlight on cultural icon Rankin – head of Rankin Film and founder of Dazed & Confused.
Brand new for 2019, ASFF introduces the Industry Marketplace. The first event of its kind in the UK, it is a platform for attendees and delegates to meet face-to-face with 40 organisations from across the sector, spanning international film festivals, screen agencies, sales agents, global distributors and renowned universities. These include the BFI Network, Sheffield Doc/Fest, Creative England and many more.
Returning to ASFF, the renowned Screen School VR Lab in partnership with London College of Communication offers a platform for audiences to explore film like never before. Viewers are invited to experience new dimensions of cinema with a series of screenings, complemented by a number of panel discussions which delve into the making and realisation of VR and 360 film.
