Art-house indie comedy One Crazy Thing, is screening as part of the launch of the East End Film Festival, running 1 – 12 July. Directed by Amit Gupta, the comedy follows an out-of-work actor as he attempts to save his career after the release of a revealing viral video. The tabloid scandal of actor, Jay, after recording a sex tape with his ex-girlfriend, leaves him single, and managing his family’s tandoori restaurant in a rough corner of London after having been kicked out of his position in a daytime soap opera.
Jay’s ex’s career takes off – becoming an A List Hollywood celebrity – as he suffers humiliation online, nicknamed the “Asian Persuasion,” in person as he begins to be recognised on the street and amongst his family who say they have been “shamed.” Finally, Jay meets Hannah, an American graduate student who manages to get by without much of an online presence so has no idea about Jay’s online alter-ego. They begin dating and Jay considers coming clean, but instead continues to hide from the truth – leading to highly comical scenes whereby Jay tries to avoid exposure and keep his tainted history from his new girl.
