Each spell-binding reel touches upon a range of social topics; the effects of immigration sit side-by-side with a depiction of selfie culture, whilst CGI addresses mental health and explores the changing nature of memory. Expect delightful stop motion, curious characters and eye-catching illusions.
Weird is a short film about identity, diversity and learning to accept yourself for who you are. It recounts the tale of a girl who is judged for being different, but finds out she’s not so weird after all. In her monologue of sufferance, the girl explores the subjective concept, ‘weirdness’, in which she reaches the conclusion that the concept is dependent upon personal perspective. Director Fausto Montanari was awarded the Best Director, Diamond Award at the Mindfield Film Festival, for Weird in 2018.
Weird is screening as part of Animation 5: Alternative Paths. For the full programme, click here.
