Our selection of Documentary Feature Films considers the world through a reflective lens, looking at global politics, borderlands, national identities and the spaces in between. These are life-affirming and deeply contemplative features for today’s viewers.
Captured entirely on 16mm stock, Sunrise with Sea Monsters follows the absurdly prophetic journey of a hard drive as it embarks on a quest of self discovery into the perilous British landscapes. This is an Odyssey of sci-fi tech, global archives, metaphysical data, non human futures and memory failures. The director Myles Painter works with digital and traditional film technologies to explore what it means to be human. His first documentary, END-TIME – The Last Man (2016) presented cultural representations of Apocalypse in popular culture.
Sunrise with Sea Monsters is screening as part of Documentary Feature 5. It will be shown on Saturday 9 November at York Theatre Royale (11:30-12:45).
