New Digital Platform First Films Showcases Emerging Video Talent

Showcasing imaginative video talent and art, First Films is a new digital platform that is the place to find the very best in emerging short film creatives. The website is an online space to promote new filmmakers and to celebrate striking visual media works. The title of the site is based on the concept that the works are the artists’ “first” foray into the moving image world. Covering the experimental, artistic and fashion genres, First Films is the home for stylish and inspired productions.

Founded by artist Vasilisa Forbes, the website was a response to the lack of online video based platforms where artists could showcase their film work. Not only drawing in a host of outstanding video artists, the site also promotes a diverse range of pieces, such as short films, music videos, art-shorts and experimental video explorations. Open to all, filmmakers and artists can submit simply online by emailing over their content to the judging panel.

The newest film on the site is by Forbes herself. Brisk is a dark visual piece filmed on location in North London under the tone of a grey mid-season sky. Elements of a brewing storm melt over the central character, modelled by Alexandra at FM. As with many video works the production is a collaboration between Forbes, stylist Sarah Michelle and assistant Alice Hocheid. The intense fashion short exudes a sharp autumnal mood, in transparent macs and bare, natural beauty.

In addition to online promotion First Films presents a number of screenings. From September Forbes and her team will present events at new members club The Library. They will also work with leading video figures to create a wider outreach in moving image artworks.
