Celebrating its 10th anniversary in style, this year’s Aesthetica Short Film Festival has assembled a dizzying array of films, masterclasses, guest programmes, showcase screenings, VR panels and much, much more. All content is available On Demand until 30 November with an Unlimited Pass. Here is a comprehensive guide to what you can watch from ASFF 2020:
Every year, ASFF welcomes industry leaders from a range of disciplines to speak about their craft. Among our acclaimed speakers this year are actors Dame Judi Dench, Maxine Peake and Russell Tovey, directors Andrea Arnold (American Honey), Sarah Gavron (Suffragette) and Chinonye Chukwu (Clemency), VFX supervisor Paul Franklin (Interstellar) and sound designer Glenn Freemantle (Gravity).
This year, ASFF comes to you On Demand in the comfort of your own home. Our video library features all of the films in the Official Selection. These are searchable by key words. Find a specific film, theme or genre and curate your own screening experience. Genres range from comedy to drama, documentary, animation, thriller, fashion, advertising and experimental.
ASFF’s renowned Showcase Screenings are a demonstration of the UK’s burgeoning new film talent. Presenting works from today’s leading schools and institutions, everywhere from York St. John University to Arts University Bournemouth, Showcase Screenings run for two hours and feature a selection of films followed by a panel discussion with filmmakers, industry professionals and academics.
Explore the breadth of cinema through our specially curated guest programmes. Exciting organisations, such as the Transgender Media Portal, Native Spirit Film Festival, Short of the Week and Doc Society, have each brought together remarkable collections of films, examining diverse issues ranging from isolation to sovereignty to responses to the Black Lives Matter movement.
Take your viewing experience to new dimensions and be immersed in 360 film. The VR Lab is complemented by a series of panel discussions, welcoming pioneering filmmakers and creatives to delve into the making and realisation of VR and 360 film through the lens of ethics, production and storytelling. Topics explored include morality and ethics in constructed environments and documentary in 360°.
Filmmaker Insights Panels:
Our intimate Filmmaker Insights panels offer a soapbox to creatives from the Official Selection to share their knowledge. From Establishing Your Unique Style and Presenting the Facts to Financing Your Film, Filmmaker Insights are essential sessions where filmmakers can learn from their peers.
