The Cunning Man is inspired by a real cunning man: John Harries (c.1785-1839). It’s an enchanted and curious tale of compassion in the face of callous greed and selfishness amongst humanity. In ASFF’s Filmmaker Interview, Ali Cook discusses bringing a feeling of wonder to an audience and the historical origin of his drama short ‘The Cunning Man’.
Ali Cook’s short film screens at ASFF 2019 in our Official Selection as part of Drama 3: The Connections We Make. It will be shown on Wednesday 6 November at York Theatre Royal Studio (21:15-23:00), Friday 8 November at King’s Manor (16:00-17:45) and Sunday 10 November at Bootham School (12:00-13:45).
