DUCTAC’s Gallery of Light in Dubai to host Cairo Video Festival Highlights

From 15 – 21 January, DUCTAC‘s Gallery of Light will host a selection of highlights from the sixth Cairo Video Festival alongside key contributions specially chosen by the festival’s curators. Cairo Video Festival: 6th Edition Highlights is brought to Dubai’s multi-purpose creative centre DUCTAC by Medrar – a Cairo-based non-profit arts collective that hosts festivals, workshops and events.

Designed with the aim to stimulate collaborations and discussions with contemporary artists, Medrar sets the stage for contemporary practitioners seeking to have conversations and collaborations with their peers. Through the creation of the Cairo Video Festival in 2005, the collective has strived to generate creative dialogues between experimental video and film artists, curators and the general public, and also to provide a platform for creatives to showcase innovative work.

Through 10 days of screenings, artists talks, and discussions, the 6th Cairo Video Festival, which took place in November 2014, offered an opportunity for curators and audiences to engage with new media production and experimentation from international artists. This presentation, the collective’s first appearance in the United Arab Emirates, will bring a sample of the festival’s creativity to audiences in Dubai.
