Head of Film, UCA Farnham and Chair of NAHEMI
Claire Barwell is a filmmaker and film education professional who has led the BA(Hons) Film Production course at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham since 2004.
As Chair of NAHEMI (the National Association of Higher Education in the Moving Image) since 2010 she has organised conferences for film educators (Talking Shop) and festivals of student work (Eat our Shorts). She has also served on the juries for the Watersprite and Ffresh festivals of student work.
She produced Terence Davies’ Death and Transfiguration and worked at ITV and the BBC before joining the Independent Filmmakers’ Association. Claire has written articles for Undercut, Sight & Sound, Framework, the Journal of Visual Communication, PIX and the Cahiers Louis Lumière. She made films at the London Filmmakers’ Co-op and for Channel 4, a City one-minute film for the World Expo (Shanghai 2010) and an installation Breath/Breathe for the Cultural Olympics Exhibition, 2010.
