Tickets for the seventh edition of the Aesthetica Short Film Festival (ASFF) are now on sale, running 8-12 November in York. BAFTA recognised, ASFF is a major UK and international festival the establishes a destination to experience the power and craft of cinema. It is a hotbed for fresh ideas and talent discovery.
The festival has now expanded to five days, offering more opportunities for audiences to explore new cinema and original filmmaking. 400 films are screened in 18 venues throughout the city of York showcasing excellence in filmmaking from around the world. In 2016, 40 countries were represented in the Official Selection and, this year, ASFF is building upon its diverse programming with a collection of Showcase Screenings from leading cultural institutions.
Through the Official Selection, audiences are invited to explore a dynamic catalogue of films in the genres of Animation, Artists’ film, Comedy, Dance, Documentary, Drama, Experimental, Music Video, Thriller as well as the emerging genres of Fashion and Advertising. The Family Friendly programme shares the joy of cinema with younger audiences, and adults with babies are invited to watch great films in a relaxed environment as part of Cinema Bambino.
ASFF is a key event for film fans and filmmakers alike, offering over 30 Industry Sessions where attendees are invited to connect with some of today’s top film and culture personalities. Speakers include the award-winning writer, performer and director Andi Osho whose career both in front and behind the camera spaces 20 years and Anne Edyvean, head of the BBC Writersroom, who gives an insight into screenwriting. There will also be representatives from a wide range of leading organisations, such as acclaimed VFX Company Industrial Light & Magic, Association of Camera Operators, RADA and Seed Animation. Topics for the talks and panel discussions include directing, cinematography, funding, performance, artist film, visual effects, diversity arts and many more.
Returning events include Meet the Film Festivals Marketplace, a lively tradeshow with UK and international festivals where filmmakers can find out exactly what programmers are looking for. The Meet the Filmmakers event is also back with a new set of Official Selection filmmakers: meet those whose work is at the heart of ASFF and gain a unique insight into their practice.
Screening Passes range from Single Screening Tickets to One Day and Unlimited Five Day Passes, enabling the festival-goer boundless access to all film screenings across the festival. Tickets for Masterclasses, Special Events and Networking Sessions are available. These help filmmakers and film enthusiasts to explore today’s key issues, develop their career, enhance their skills and tune into current opportunities for practitioners working at any level.
