In 2014, Simon James Cookson’s short drama The Light had its premiere at the BAFTA-Qualifying Aesthetica Short Film Festival. Produced by Reel Issues, the 18 minute film is set in 1954 and is the story of a police officer in an anti-Communist “Red Squad” who begins to question his life when a suspect is killed during a routine arrest.
ASFF is a celebration of independent film from across the world, and an outlet for supporting and championing short filmmaking. The festival’s fifth edition will take place in 15 iconic venues across the city of York from 5-8 November and is currently open for entries.
