ASFF 2016 Masterclasses: Working With Industry and Commissioning

For those looking to learn from and interact with top film-world professionals, this year’s ASFF Masterclass programme has more to offer than ever, encompassing a wide variety of topics relating to aspects of the film industry today. With speakers ranging from award-winning animators, producers and directors to critics and festival programmers, ASFF’s fantastic selection of industry-led sessions has something for everyone. Our Working with Industry Masterclass strand presents a fantastic opportunity to learn more about working in film from those who do, providing top tips for filmmakers who would like to gain confidence and enhance their approach to filmmaking. In BBC: Commissioning for Comedy, Kristian Smith, Commissioning Editor at the BBC (Boy Meets Girl, Uncle, Blandings), will chair a captivating panel discussion alongside Agent, Kate Haldane (PBJ Management); Producer, Gill Isles (Peter Kay’s Car Share, Rovers) and Writer, Caroline Moran (Raised by Wolves). The panel will explore all areas of commissioning from developing an idea to getting noticed on the pitch.

Visitors can also gain from a unique insight of the industry from the perspective of Sara Putt Associates, a leading independent UK agency and diary service for film professionals, who have worked on productions such as Doctor StrangeThe Jungle Book and Snow White & the Huntsman. Putt has worked alongside BAFTA and on several short films, and will offer advice on how to navigate the industry and build your career in front of the camera and behind the scenes.
