Exciting new ideas and approaches continue to emerge regularly within the medium of artists’ film. ASFF celebrates this innovation and diversity by screening the very best of international artists’ film to audiences, filmmakers and industry professionals across the four-day event that runs annually in November.
Last year’s festival screened Ma (Artists’ Film Winner) by artist filmmaker Imran Perretta, an emotive and compelling story about human loss and personal tragedy. Ma, Bengali for mother, is a work that follows the director’s grandmother as she reflects on the recent death or her daughter, Perretta’s mother.
Perretta studied an MFA in Fine Art at the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London. His work has been screened in numerous exhibitions, including The Red Mansion Prize, Dyson Gallery, RCA, London; Arbor, The Materials Museum, UCL, London, and Ma was presented in a solo screening at The Hepworth Wakefield following on from its success at ASFF 2013.
ASFF is now accepting entries for its latest instalment, welcoming submissions from filmmakers at any level in their career up until 31 May. The categories for entry are: Advertising, Animation, Artists’ Film, Comedy, Documentary, Drama, Experimental, Fashion, Music Video and Thriller.
Prizes include ASFF screenings; £750 Festival Winner; £250 People’s Choice Award; Best of Category Awards; screenings in guest programmes at other international film festivals; editorial mention in Aesthetica Magazine; coverage on the ASFF Blog and inclusion in the Festival Highlights Online Screening.
