The Aesthetica Short Film Festival presents the most outstanding works of cinema from talented filmmakers from across the world. The festival is one of the UK’s most extensive platforms for film and the film industry, with one of the largest film audiences.

Audiences are at the heart of ASFF. The festival holds the ethos that everybody has the right to enjoy and engage with great films. As part of a commitment to serving audiences, ASFF offers a programme of accessible screenings. The festival aims to provide a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for all, united by a love of great film.

Venue Accessibility

The festival screens films and hosts industry events in multiple venues. Though some venues are located in York’s historic buildings, the majority are fully wheelchair accessible. For more details, please check our venues page.

All films will also be available to view at the fully-accessible Videotheque in Explore York.

Carers, Personal Assistants & Interpreters

Complimentary passes are available to all Carers, Personal Assistants and Sign-Language Interpreters, but must be booked in advance. A proof of DLA or a valid CEA card is required.

Hearing Loops & Subtitled Screenings

Hearing Loops and headphones are available at City Screen and Everyman Cinema.

Fully subtitled reels are available across all genres. These screenings are specially curated for anyone with hearing difficulties. Look out for the symbol in the film programme.

Foreign language films are also presented with English subtitles and are clearly marked.

Family Friendly Screenings

The festival is dedicated to ensuring audiences of all ages have access to film. Every year we programme a number of family friendly screenings of films, which screen through out the weekend of the festival at times that are suitable for younger audience members.

Please see the Family Friendly section in the programme for more details.
