New to the BAFTA Qualifying Aesthetica Short Film Festival programme is an array of independently curated Showcase Screenings from guest institutions across the UK. View some of the best and brightest works being produced by talented filmmakers and hear from experts in specialist panel discussions and Q&A sessions led by key representatives and creatives from each organisation.
Middlesex University London will be joining the line-up of institutions participating in our Showcase Screenings with its very own reel of innovative short film from its Film and Television department. Focusing on diversity, this event showcases a variety of works created by BA & MA Film and BA TV Production undergraduates. A panel of students and academics will discuss the importance of diversification, the opportunities it provides and how it inspires the range of work produced.
Featured films include Aidan J. David’s Under Gypsy’s Wing (2016), a short that tracks the evolving relationship of Gypsy and Doe as they work together picking up metals and scrap to sell; Manuela Gilke’s Reflections (2014), the story of Francesca who, unhappily married, finds peace at an indoor swimming pool during a party and forms an unusual friendship with the 15-year-old son of the host; and A Ghost’s Story (2015) by Nayomi Roshini, which details the appearance of the Katie King spirit during a series of 19th- and 20th-century séances and spiritualist meetings.
