Director of Creative Projects
Craig McNeil was born in 1967 in Dundee, Scotland. After leaving school and pursuing a few dead-end jobs then further education, he worked in a local record shop. He played guitar and sang in a local band but by 1992 he decided to move to London to pursue the dream of a job in the music industry. Through work experience he joined Polydor Records that same year. As assistant to the international department he worked with artists such as The Bee Gees, The God Machine, Van Morrison, Boyzone, Status Quo, The Who, Gene and Shed Seven. In 1995 he left to join the Beggars Group of Labels (XL, Rough Trade, Matador, Young Turks, 4AD) as International Promotions Manager where he was responsible for the worldwide promotional campaign for The Prodigy’s Fat of The Land album. In 2002 he became Director of Promotions and ran TV campaigns for artists including Adele, Dizzee Rascal, The White Stripes, Cat Power, Bon Iver, The xx, Radiohead, British Sea Power and Vampire Weekend.
In 2011 McNeil was promoted to Director of TV & Film and produced and directed films and music videos for acts including Daughter, Glass Animals & Stornoway. 2014 saw a new position as Director of Creative Projects. As part of this new role, he wrote, directed and produced a nine-minute film for Rough Trade Records to accompany the reissue of the 1992 album Every Man And Woman Is A Star by the band Ultramarine. Doolittle 25 with Joey Santiago & David Lovering is the title of a 30 minute documentary McNeil produced and directed for 4AD for the 25th anniversary reissue of the Pixies classic album Doolittle. He has just completed a documentary for XL Recordings about Badly Drawn Boy and his 2000 album The Hour of Bewilderbeast.
