BBC: Capturing the World Through Documentary

Kate Townsend joins the Masterclass programme for ASFF 2016 to deliver a unique session covering how documentary is developing today. As Executive Producer for BBC’s international documentary strand Storyville, Kate Townsend has worked on documentaries such as Storyville Global: Gay in Uganda, India’s Daughter and Louis Theroux’s Weird Weekends. By analysing what she looks for in the form, she will reveal top tips to get your documentary to stand out.

As winner of the 2007 RTS award for best current affairs documentary with To The People for BBC Two, Townsend can dispense key advice on using the power of film to comment on today’s key issues, drawing upon examples from the winning production. Most recently she has been Series Producer on Horizon, and is currently commissioning and overseeing content of BBC’s acclaimed Storyville strand.
