The BAFTA Qualifying Aesthetica Short Film Festival returns to York this year for its sixth edition, running from 3 – 6 November. Screening passes and tickets are now on sale for the four-day event, which invites audiences to explore a beautiful and historic city whilst experiencing world-class cinema in a range of genres including comedy, drama, music video and documentary. One of the UK’s most diverse celebrations of independent film-making, the festival will screen over 300 films as part of its Official Selection, alongside a programme of exciting industry events such as masterclasses, networking sessions and awards parties.
This year, ASFF will be hosting 29 masterclasses with leading figures from across the world of film. Masterclass speakers include: editor Celia Haining (Misfits, Peaky Blinders, Nightshift, and feature films Desert Dancer and Slumdog Millionaire); acclaimed Director of Photography, Chloë Thomson (Damascus Cover, I Do and Nick Cave’s 20,000 Days on Earth), and Film Critic Simran Hans (The Guardian, Sight & Sound, Little White Lies).
New for 2016 is the festival’s first award for best screenplay in the Official Selection, presented in collaboration with the Northern Film School at Leeds, as well as the introduction of our new morning coffee hour, Little Café at McGee’s. The popular Meet the Film Festivals event returns, offering a chance to network with programmers from around the world and audiences also have an opportunity to connect with artists from the Official Selection at the Meet the Filmmakers social.
Screening Passes range from Single Screening Tickets to One Day and Unlimited Four Day Passes, enabling festivalgoers unlimited access to all film screenings across the four-day event. Screening Passes also permit access to the ASFF 2016 Showcase Screenings, which are an opportunity for pass-holders to see works curated by organisations such as Creative England, Northern Film School, London College of Fashion and many more.
Tickets for Masterclasses, Special Events and Networking Sessions are now available. These help filmmakers and film enthusiasts to explore today’s key issues, develop their career, enhance their skills and tune into current opportunities for practitioners working at any level.
