The Aesthetica Short Film Festival (ASFF) is proud to present a selection of diverse and innovative short films at Underwire Festival this Saturday afternoon in London. A unique opportunity to catch six outstanding films that picked up awards at ASFF 2013, the programme showcases the best in emerging cinematic talent from across the world.
Highlights from the programme include ASFF Best of Fest Out Of Darkness, which premiered at the BFI London Film Festival in October. The emotive drama, written and directed by Manjinder Virk, explores the impact of death on the soul through raw testimonies of nine individual actors. Other gritty performances play out in the desolate laundrette of French thriller Lapsus (Karim Ouaret) which proved hugely popular with festival goers at the beginning of the month. Having collected an array of awards at festivals across the globe, including Best Thriller at ASFF, Lapsus promises to be a hit at Underwire this weekend. For those looking for something a little lighter, ASFF Best Comedy This Way Out (Staten Cousins-Roe) will tickle humour seekers whilst the delightful Oh Willy… (Emma de Swaef and Marc James Roels), which picked up Best Animation, defies any festival goer not to leave the screening without a smile on their face.
Founded in 2010, Underwire champions the work of British female filmmaking talent, providing a platform to promote and celebrate their work. The festival kicked off in style last night, beginning four days of networking events, parties and of course outstanding short film.
The ASFF programme will be screened at the Yard Theatre in Hackney Wick, which has become home to the festival for the next few days. Other screenings not to be missed include Leading Ladies this evening, celebrating the festival’s best actresses, and LOCO Presents: Live Wire at the Yard with a selection of hilarious shorts and stand up comedy on Friday from 9pm.
