ASFF 2015 Official Selection Trailer: L’Esprit de l’Escalier, Harald Hutter

Reinterpreting an idea taken from Diderot, L’Esprit de l’Escalier (Hindsight) follows the story of an old man who, upon coming back home one night, crosses paths with a woman he seems to recognise. This apparition plunges the man into the remembrance of things past, and more particularly into the memory of an encounter he made in his youth.

Filmmaker Harald Hutter returns to the Aesthetica Short Film Festival with a mesmerising new work. Winner of the Best Experimental award at ASFF 2015, Hutter’s delicate and subtle storytelling captures the viewers attention with its engaging and universal visual language. Screening in a specially curated line-up of film in the French language, L’Esprit de l’Escalier can be seen on Saturday 7 November at York St John and Sunday 8 November at Bootham School.

Discover Hutter’s winning film Léthé in our 5th Anniversary screening selection. Celebrating a plethora of past winners from years one to four, this exciting programme is accompanied by a series of panel discussions. Shot on super 16mm, Léthé sees Gabriel, a middle-aged man with no apparent destination, cross paths with Kara, a young and mysterious girl who claims to know him.
