Commissioned for the Institute for the Investigation of Other Worlds, director Toby Tatum’s short film, Mental Space, screened at the BAFTA Qualifying Aesthetica Short Film Festival in 2015. The 7-minute artists’ film encourage viewers to follow a stream of consciousness deep into a world transformed by the shaping spirit of the imagination. Tatum’s Monsters, which portrays a monstrous garden, where stone dinosaurs are enlivened by rampant foliage and gargantuan flowers, also appeared in the festival’s Official Selection in 2014.
Entries are open for ASFF’s sixth edition, and we are looking for filmmakers who are driving the genre of short film forward through inspirational and innovative works. Whether you are an established or emerging practitioner, we want to hear from you. The Official Selection of films will be shown in 15 venues across the City of York from 3 to 6 November 2016. There will be additional prizes for Best Film in each category and the People’s Choice winner.
